FAS/FASD Facts
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is the specific pattern of physical and mental disabilities caused by the mother’s use of alcohol during pregnancy.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is the term that describes the full range of disabilities caused by the mother’s use of alcohol during pregnancy, including FAS.
• The leading known cause of developmental disabilities in the United States
• There is no known “safe” amount of alcohol for a pregnant woman to drink
• There is no cure. The effects last a lifetime
• 100% preventable if the pregnant woman does not drink alcohol
